05 October 2009:
NV is focusing on recording more music while our drummer, Rob Colclasure, is studying overseas. So, instead of playing the same set in the same places, NV is putting together a lot of new material for future releases and shows. We feel good about the writing process, and new sounds are coming from all over the musical spectrum. For 7 years, NV has written, recorded, and performed as some sort of ‘instrumental post-rock’ group. During that time, the band has always tried to defy convention within the genre. The listener can judge whether we accomplished this. Now, however, it is time to throw off the whole concept of genre. As creative people, the returns gained from working within this genre have gotten progressively smaller. We hope not to infer that we are discounting the music and genre that led us to where we are today. Our only goal at this point is to produce creative music, and creatively we feel compelled to experiment with our sound. We look forward to releasing new and exciting music and hope that you share our enthusiasm.

Inspired by the documentary “Venice: Behind the Mask” by Marco Gentile
and Ryan Simon, ‘Venice’ is an attempt to articulate the visual images of Carnival
into music. On the surface, Carnival can appear purely driven by entertainment
and pleasure. Yet, underneath lie themes of death, rebirth, and social and cultural
identity. Northvia explores the darker side of Carnival, hoping to reveal something
more behind the mask.

03 November 2006:
I won't say that we are lazy, but the new album has been sitting on the shelf for way too long. So here it is, it isn't perfect, some of the mixes are not quite right, the mastering is sub par, but the music is still above par (in our minds). This album has truly been a lot of work on our part. Recorded in 5 cities, mixed in a few more, and our members being in countless number of places throughout the whole ordeal. So it is quite apropos that we decided to entitle the album Sleeping in Airports before all of this traveling took place. Who knows what will come of NV, but if this is it, we hope that it stays with you in your travels.
In case you care what we have been up to; John is getting his Phd in Philadelphia, Will is married and teaching in Orlando, Rob is finishing up school at FSU and moving to Jacksonville, and Thomas is being a jet-setter in Boston.
